DISPOSABLE ROTOR CENTRIFUGE OPTION FOR TRUCK AND BUS
Enginecare Systems Australasia has released an optional rapid change, no-mess disposable rotor model SpinnerII oil cleaning centrifuge.
The new 576 SpinnerII centrifuge enables anyone to empty the collected soot and contaminant deposits in less than a minute. The need for any contact with the collected waste material is also eliminated. A major benefit is the rotor’s construction which enables it to be used for between two and three service intervals.
Users now have a choice of either cleanable or disposable rotor SpinnerII centrifuges. People who prefer a faster, cleaner and simpler cleaning process can now avoid having to remove the collected waste particles and thoroughly clean rinsing the centrifuge’s components prior to re-assembly. The 576 rotor model option makes the task quick, clean and simple.
The used rotor of the 576 SpinnerII can be slipped into a plastic bag for easy disposal and because the waste contents are non-toxic, can be disposed of in any standard waste bin. Apart from the disposable rotor, the latest generation SpinnerII has identical construction, hardware and hoses that make it completely interchangeable with the cleanable rotor 996 and 060 SpinnerII models.
A SpinnerII centrifuge removes a large proportion of the abrasives and soot present in oil which is caused by the design of today’s low particulate emission engines. More than 60 diesel engine manufacturers worldwide either factory fit or endorses the use of SpinnerII oil cleaning centrifuges.
By using submicron bypass filtration in the lubrication system, it’s quite common to double the life of an engine between overhauls. You stop the abrasive wear within one or two oil change intervals. We have seen many businesses significantly reduce premature wear in turbochargers, cam followers, piston rings, engine brakes compressors, and all other oil-related parts.

SUPER CLEAN OIL: DELIVERING ENGINE AND MACHINE EFFICIENCIES AND VALUE
Advancing technology in oil filtration means that mining maintenance engineers now have access to a range of cost effective solutions that can reduce operating costs, while enhancing engine reliability and performance.
More than 60 diesel engine manufacturers worldwide either factory fit or endorses the use of SpinnerII oil cleaning centrifuges. A supplier of preventive maintenance solutions to the mining industry says there is immediate potential to dramatically reduce oil consumption, costly filter changes and environmental impacts.
The squeeze on profit margins in the Australian transport industry has prompted most operators to embrace the benefits of oil centrifuges and other filtration technologies to dramatically reduce costs and boost financial and operational productivity.
The same approach will benefit engine-powered mining operations. Fitting a SpinnerII sub-micron oil conditioning system enables diesel or gas engines to maintain and surpass traditional oil and filter change intervals. A centrifuge removes a large proportion of the abrasives and soot present in oil which is caused by the design of today’s low particulate emission engines.
When abrasives are eliminated by a centrifuge, you also remove heat-generating friction from the oil. When friction heat is present between bearing surfaces or any two moving pieces of machinery, that heat expands the metal surfaces, which can reduce oil film thickness.
As the centrifuge cleans oil down to sub-micron particles, friction is significantly reduced, adding to the oil’s lubricity. Heat reduction also fractionally increases oil film thickness, enhancing the life of components and extending oil and filter change intervals.
By using submicron filtration in the lubrication system, it’s normal to at least double the in-service life of an engine or machinery between overhauls. You stop the abrasive wear within one or two oil change intervals. We have seen many applications significantly reduce premature wear in all oil-related areas. These improvements are first noticeable in turbochargers, camshaft areas, compressors, engine brakes and other internal components.

COACH OPERATOR REDUCES SOOT, MAINTENCE COSTS
Excessive soot and safety issues have led a Queensland Coach operator to install Spinner II oil centrifuges on their diesel powered buses.
Rockhampton based Rothery’s Coaches was established in 1977 and operates services including school runs, charter work and day tours.
“We run six Denning Phoenixes and a Motor Coach Classic within our fleet of ten coaches. With our vehicles travelling close to a million kilometres annually, we need to carefully monitor our maintenance costs and the condition of our equipment”, said Operations Manager, Kirt Rothery.
“Continual stop-start driving conditions associated with school runs were creating problems with excessive soot in some engines. Basically, the engines were not able to get rid of the soot and this was blocking the Huei valves which had to be replaced every 9,000 kilometres - an expense that could not continue.
Safety was another concern. Apart from the cost of replacing valves, when these fail engine revs revert to idle and this is very unsafe when you have a busload of schoolchildren crossing a busy intersection.
Investigation of possible solutions led us to fitting Spinner II oil centrifuges. This has resolved both the safety issue and eliminated the purchase and labour cost of valve replacements. We also know that the significant reduction of soot in our engines will help extend whole of engine life and optimize engine return on investment economies.
Installation of Spinner II centrifuges on seven of our vehicles could enable us to extend our oil change intervals to over 20,000 kilometres, however part of the engine manufacturer’s solution of the injector problem was to reduce oil change intervals to 6,000 kilometres.
We realise this is a very conservative approach and may be over-engineering the solution, however we are following this procedure while evaluating oil sample reports to ensure we do not have problems”, Rothery said.
Enginecare Systems said it has developed its knowledge of centrifugal oil and fuel filtration over 40 years. The company says its products are used primarily for maintaining, optimizing and extending the life of engines used in transport, marine, power generation, quarries, mines, agriculture, forestry and industrial applications - anywhere oil is used.
“Our typical customers are transport and diesel machinery operators who are seeking cost-reduction solutions and operating efficiencies. Spinner II centrifuges have been shown to at least double oil and filter change intervals as well as significantly reducing the carbon footprint of equipment” said Enginecare’s Laurie Hyland.
Rotherys services the Rockhampton and Central Queensland market, operating as far as Townsville and Longreach. The coach operator says it is also well equipped for providing services to the Central Queensland mining sites with several services already in operation.
