Government Can Cut Transport cost
SAVINGS FOR GOVERNMENT TRANSPORT
According to a supplier of lubrication and oil filtration systems, managers of government transport assets should lead by example and significantly reduce their operating and investment costs.
Laurie Hyland of Engine Care Systems Australasia said federal, state and local government’s fleet of trucks, buses, earth moving equipment and other vehicles are needlessly consuming excessive oil and filters.
“Government administrators at all levels should investigate the installation of proven cost-saving devices such as oil centrifuges and quality long-life oils. These have been shown by private transport enterprises across Australia to save thousands of dollars per year per vehicle.
Savings are made through longer oil change intervals, lower maintenance time and a reduction in the amount of waste oil and contaminated filters that need to be disposed of properly.
For a modest investment, centrifuges are able to remove most of the smaller abrasive sub-micron soot particles from an engine’s oil, providing a significantly higher level of protection against engine wear. The result is an improved return on investment through extending whole of engine life because of the reduced friction in the centrifuge conditioned oil.
We regularly receive reports that regular oil sampling on engines fitted with a centrifuge can achieve double or treble standard oil change intervals. This means that distances of over 1.6 million kilometres are now common on large diesel engines before an engine overhaul is needed. Because of the additional engine protection, more than 60 engine manufacturers fit Spinner centrifuges as standard equipment or endorse their use”. Hyland said.
Engine Care Systems said it has developed its knowledge of centrifugal oil and fuel filtration over 40 years. Its products are used primarily for maintaining, optimizing and extending the life of engines, oils, filter media, diesel fuel, machine components, crusher drives, gearboxes and anywhere oil is used.
