Government Can Lead in Reducing Emissions
GOVERNMENT SHOULD LOOK TO “ITS OWN BACK YARD”
A Queensland business has pointed to funding under the Federal Government’s $42 billion National building and Jobs Plan as a way to reduce its own costs, while showing leadership on reducing emissions.
Laurie Hyland, CEO of Engine Care Systems Australasia Pty Ltd, said, “Government across Australia operates large fleets of trucks, buses, earth moving equipment, defence and other vehicles that are needlessly consuming excessive oil and filters.
For a modest investment, managers of taxpayer-funded assets can significantly extend oil change intervals of their equipment and reduce the amount of waste oil and contaminated filters that need to be disposed of properly.”
“As part of infrastructure funding for councils, serious consideration should be given by government administrators at all levels to install cost-saving devices such as oil centrifuges and quality long-life oils. These have been proven1 to save thousands of dollars per year, per vehicle”, Laurie said.
According to Laurie, centrifuges are able to remove most of the smaller abrasive sub-micron soot particles from an engine’s oil, providing a significantly higher level of protection against engine wear.
“We are often told how regular oil sampling on engines fitted with a centrifuge can achieve double or treble standard oil change intervals. This means that distances of over 1.6 million kilometres are now common on large diesel engines before an engine overhaul is needed”, Laurie said.
He said his company was one of several that supplied proven cost-reducing, environmentally beneficial components for diesel powered equipment.
“Because of the additional engine protection, more than 52 engine manufacturers fit Spinner centrifuges as standard equipment or endorse their use” said Laurie.
Engine Care Systems said it has developed its knowledge of centrifugal oil and fuel filtration over 40 years. Its products are used primarily for maintaining, optimizing and extending the life of engines, oils, filter media, diesel fuel, machine components, crusher drives, gearboxes and anywhere oil is used.
