Clean Oil and Fuel Additives Cut Road Pilot Costs
CLEAN OIL AND FUEL ADDITIVES CUT ROAD PILOT COSTS
Road pilots accompanying oversize loads usually travel huge distances across Australia, often crossing the entire country several times a month.
Operators need to carefully control fuel, oil and maintenance costs to ensure the viability of their business. Every additional kilometre travelled on a tank of fuel increases the bottom line.
Ross Robertson runs a two-litre diesel Volkswagen Caddy that has clocked 145,000km in its first year. The pilot vehicle regularly travels from Hervey Bay to Western Australia and back – a round trip of up to 12,000 kilometres.
“Most of our work involves piloting wide loads of mining equipment. These trips include Brisbane to the Central Highlands and the Hunter Valley mine sites”, Ross said.
“My experience with many different vehicles, both diesel and petrol powered, has shown that the correct oil, filtration and fuel additive will dramatically extend oil change intervals, increase mileage and preserve an engine’s performance and life.”
“We sourced the lubrication and fuel elements from Enginecare Systems, who offer a comprehensive range of solutions for transport operators. The Caddy was equipped with Amsoil Euro Oil 5w-40, a hundred percent synthetic oil and a Racor one micron filter. Fuel performance was boosted with the addition of Fuelmaster fuel additive”.
“While the benefits from the lubrication specification are long term, the vehicle’s fuel performance to date has been amazing. We are getting well over an extra 100-120 kilometres per 50 litres of fuel by using the fuel additive.”
“The bypass filter is replaced every 10,000km and the oil is changed every 20,000 kilometres. We could probably go a lot longer than these intervals, however it’s only a small engine and the cost of the oil changes is minimal”.
“In my experience, the cleaner the oil, the longer the engine performs efficiently and lasts longer” said Ross.
